Actress and singer Zendaya is set to star in the upcoming film A WHITE LIE (formerly titled THE GILDED YEARS). Based on the book The Guilded Years by Karin Tanabe, the film will be produced by Reese Witherspoon, as reported by Billboard.

Zendaya will take on the role of Anita Hemmings. Hemmings is a real life woman who was the first African American woman to graduate from Vassar College. As a light-skinned woman, Hemmings was able to attend Vassar by passing as white.

The film will also feature a love story between Hemmings and a Harvard student. A WHITE LIE is labeled as a "psychological thriller."

Zendaya will also produce the film, alongside Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter. Monica Beletsky (producer for TV's FARGO and PARENTHOOD) will pen the script.

Zendaya can next be seen in the upcoming movie musical THE GREATEST SHOWMAN, alongside Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron, on December 20. She will also take part in the SPIDERMAN: HOMECOMING sequel, reprising her role alongside Tom Holland.
