Simone's talents have influenced artists ranging from Elton John to Kanye West. The singer, perhaps best known for her hit song "I Put a Spell on You," passed away in 2003.

In May 2014 the film was shown at the Cannes Film Festival. Two documentaries were released on the jazz singer's life last year. "What Happened Miss Simone?" was recently nominated for an Academy Award for best documentary feature.
