VIDEO: Bill Maher Defends Comments on Wanting a Recession to Get Rid of Trump

In his editorial New Rule, Bill Maher reiterates that economic recessions are survivable events; what Trump is doing to this country is not.

Earlier this month, Maher talked about the economy and how the "bottom has to fall out at some point" and that he was "hoping for it."

"Because I think one way you get rid of Trump is a CRASHING economy," Maher previously said. "So please, bring on the recession. Sorry if that hurts people, but it's either root for a recession or you lose your democracy."

Following the backlash, he appears to still support his statements.

Maher headlined his first special on the network in 1989 and has starred in ten HBO solo specials to date. He is also an executive producer of the innovative news magazine show "VICE," which is now in its sixth season on HBO.
