As first reported on The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures is currently negotiating to give financial backing and distribution to Seth Rogen's upcoming comedy 'The Apocalypse'. The film, co-written by Rogen and Evan Goldberg, will mark the directorial debut for the actor. Rogen will co-produce the film with James Weaver through their Point Grey Production Company.

The film is based on a short film entitled 'Jay and Seth vs. The Apocalypse'. The short starred Rogen and Jay Baruchel as themselves, hiding in their apartment as they awaited the end of the world to happen. In the full-length feature film, the two actors will be joined by James Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson. The star-studded cast will play themselves and the location of the film will be moved to Franco's apartment in LA. According to an inside source, Rogen will be working with a budget of between $30 and 40 million. No release date for the film has been set.

Rogen's recent film credits include '50/50, 'Pineapple Express' and 'Green Hornet'.
