Season to Date, NBC Ranks #1 Among Big 4 in Every Key Demo

NBC has tied for #2 in adults 18-49 for the primetime ratings week of Jan. 18-24, averaging a 1.2 rating, 4 share in 18-49 and 4.9 million viewers overall, according to "live plus same day" results from Nielsen Media Research.

Pacing NBC's week were top-30 rankings among primetime programs on the Big 4 in adults 18-49 for Tuesday's "Chicago Fire" (tied for #10), Tuesday's "Chicago Med" (tied for #12), Thursday's "Blacklist" (tied for #15), Monday's "Superstore" (tied for #19), Friday's "Dateline NBC" (tied for #21), Sunday's "American Ninja Warrior" special (tied for #21) and Thursday's "Shades of Blue" (tied for #28).

Through the opening 19 weeks of the 2015-16 season, NBC ranks #1 among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49 and all other key demos (including a tie in men 18-34), while placing #2 in total viewers.

NBC's total-viewer average of 9.088 million is the network's highest at this point in a season without a SUPER BOWL boost since 2006-07 (9.8 million).

Primetime averages for the week of Jan. 25-31 in adults 18-49 are: Fox, 2.2 rating, 7 share; CBS, 1.2/4; NBC, 1.2/4; ABC, 1.1/4 and CW, 0.7/2. In overall total viewers, the weekly averages were: Fox, 7.5 million; CBS, 6.8 million; NBC, 4.9 million; ABC, 3.9 million; and CW, 1.9 million.

"Most current" averages for the season to date are: NBC, 2.5/8; CBS, 2.3/8; Fox, 2.1/7; ABC, 1.8/6; and CW, 0.7/2. In overall total viewers, the season averages are: CBS, 11.0 million; NBC, 9.1 million; ABC, 6.7 million; Fox, 6.5 million; and CW, 1.9 million.

NBC highlights for the week of Jan. 25-31:

Monday

"Superstore" (1.5/5 in 18-49, 4.9 million viewers overall from 8-8:30 p.m. ET) finished within 0.2 of the prior week's 18-49 rating despite competition this week from Fox's regular-slot premiere of "The X-Files." "Live Plus Three Day" Ratings: "Superstore" grew by +18% going from "live plus same day" to "live plus three day" ratings in 18-49 (1.47 to 1.75) and by 642,000 viewers overall (4.9 million to 5.6 million). "Live Plus Seven Day" Ratings: To date, "Superstore" has grown in L+7 vs. L+SD by +26% in 18-49 rating (from a 1.75 to a 2.21) and 1.1 million viewers overall (6.2 million to 7.3 million). Upscale: "Superstore generates a solid upscale audience, indexing at a 112 among adults 18-49 living in homes with $100K+ incomes.

"Telenovela" (0.9/3 in 18-49, 3.3 million viewers overall from 8:30-9 p.m. ET) finished within 0.2 of the previous week's 1.1 in 18-49 despite this week's competition from Fox's regular-slot premiere of "The X-Files." L+3: "Telenovela" grew by +15% going from "live plus same day" to "live plus three day" ratings in 18-49 (0.92 to 1.06) and by 414,000 viewers overall (3.3 million to 3.7 million). L+7: "Telenovela" has increased by +22% this season in 18-49 rating (from a 1.23 to a 1.50) and 805,000 viewers overall (4.5 million to 5.3 million) going from L+SD to L+7. Upscale: "Telenovela" has generated a strong upscale audience, indexing at a 117 among adults 18-49 living in homes with $100K+ incomes.

"The Biggest Loser 17" (1.2/4 in 18-49, 3.6 million viewers overall from 9-11 p.m. ET) equaled its season high in 18-49 (1.2, previously scored with the show's season premiere on Jan. 4) and also delivered its most-watched episode since the season debut on Jan. 4 (3.9 million). "Dateline" jumped week to week by +20% in 18-49 (1.0 to 1.2) and +5% in total viewers (3.6 million vs. 3.5 million). L+3: "Loser" grew by +27% in 18-49 (1.16 to 1.48) and 863,000 viewers (3.6 million to 4.5 million) going from L+SD to L+3. L+7: "Loser" has increased by +38% this season going from L+SD to L+7 in 18-49 (1.14 to 1.57) and by 1.2 million viewers overall (3.7 million to 4.9 million). Upscale: "Loser" delivers a solid upscale audience, indexing at a 117 among adults 18-49 living in homes with $100K+ incomes.

Tuesday

NBC won the night among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49 and all other key demographics (including a tie in men 18-34), with "Chicago Fire" and "Chicago Med" delivering the #1-2 ratings of the night in adults 18-49.

"Hollywood Game Night" (1.2/4 in 18-49, 4.5 million viewers overall from 8-9 p.m. ET) ranked #2 or tied for #2 in the time period among the Big 4 in every key measure. In 18-49, "HGN" retained 92% of the prior week's season-high 1.3 rating and in total viewers, it retained 98% of the previous week's season-high 4.6 million.

"Chicago Med" (1.7/5 in 18-49, 7.6 million viewers overall from 9-10 p.m. ET) grew +6% week to week in 18-49 (1.7 vs. 1.6) and +7% in total viewers (7.6 million vs. 7.1 million) and won the slot among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49 and all other key demos. "Med" was up +113% versus NBC's January average in the slot last year (1.7 vs. 0.8 for comedies) and tripled the January 2015 average in total viewers (7.6 million vs. 2.5 million). "Med" was the #2 show of the night in adults 18-49, behind only NBC's "Chicago Fire. L+3: "Chicago Med" increased by +29% in 18-49 (1.66 to 2.14) and 1.9 million viewers (7.6 million to 9.5 million) going from L+SD to L+3. L+7: "Chicago Med" has increased by +40% in 18-49 rating (from a 2.00 to a 2.80) and 2.7 million viewers overall (8.8 million to 11.5 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

"Chicago Fire" (1.8/6 in 18-49, 8.5 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. ET) ranked as the #1 show of the night in adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and other key measures and dominated the 10-11 p.m. ET hour among ABC, CBS and NBC in every key measure. "Fire" beat the ABC-CBS slot competition combined in adults 18-49 (1.8 vs. a combined 1.5) and delivered its 19thconsecutive time-period win in 18-49 versus regular ABC-CBS competition in the 10-11 p.m. slot when in original, dating back to February 2015. L+3: "Chicago Fire" grew by +43% in 18-49 (1.81 to 2.58) and 2.7 million viewers (8.5 million to 11.2 million) going from L+SD to L+3. L+7: "Chicago Fire" has grown by +61% in 18-49 rating (from a 1.86 to a 2,99) and 3.6 million viewers overall (8.0 million to 11.6 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

Wednesday

A rebroadcast of "The Mysteries of Laura" (0.8/3 in 18-49, 5.1 million viewers overall from 8-9 p.m. ET) captured the show's biggest overall audience to date for an encore telecast and tied for its highest 18-49 rating yet for a rebroadcast. Versus an encore on the same night one year earlier, "Laura" was up +14% in 18-49 (0.8 vs. 0.7 on Jan. 28, 2015) and +22% in total viewers (5.059 million vs. 4.131 million).

An encore "Law & Order: SVU" (1.0/3 in 18-49, 4.5 million viewers overall from 9-10 p.m. ET) locked up the show's highest 18-49 rating for a rebroadcast since June 18, 2014 (1.1). The "SVU" rebroadcast was up +11% versus the series' prior encore on Dec. 30 in 18-49 (0.9) and up +43% versus a rebroadcast on the year-ago night (0.7 on Jan. 28, 2015).

A rebroadcast "Chicago P.D." (0.9/3 in 18-49, 4.7 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. ET) equaled the show's highest 18-49 rating for an encore since March 4, 2015 (1.1). The "P.D." encore was up +29% versus the show's previous rebroadcast on Dec. 30 (0.7) and up +50% versus an encore on the same night last year (0.6 on Jan. 28, 2015).

Thursday

"You, Me and the Apocalypse" (1.2/4 in 18-49, 5.0 million viewers overall from 8-9 p.m. ET) delivered NBC's highest rating in the time period since Dec. 10 (1.2) and best with regular programming since Nov. 5 (1.3). In total viewers, it was a time-slot high for NBC with regulars since Sept. 24 (6.6 million). In the time period, "Apocalypse" outrated ABC's "Beyond the Tank" and CW's Week 2 of "DC's Legends of Tomorrow" in 18-49 and total viewers. The debut episode beat NBC's time-period average last season by +20% in 18-49 rating (1.2 vs. 1.0, L+SD non-sports).

"The Blacklist" (1.6/5 in 18-49, 7.2 million viewers overall from 9-10 p.m. ET), against high-rated Republican debate competition, equaled the highest "Blacklist" 18-49 rating since the show's season premiere Oct. 1 (1.8). "Blacklist" ranked #2 or tied for #2 in the slot among the Big 4 nets in adults, men and women 18-49 and adults, men and women 18-34 and improved the slot by +33% versus NBC's average last season in 18-49 (1.6 vs. 1.2, L+SD non-sports) and +34% in total viewers (7.2 million vs. 5.3 million). L+3: The prior week's "Blacklist" increased by +78% in 18-49 going from L+SD to L+3 (1.55 to 2.76) and 4.1 million persons in total viewers (7.4 million vs. 11.5 million), for the #1 gains of the night on the Big 4 in 18-49 percentage and overall total viewers. L+7: "The Blacklist" has grown by +97% this season in 18-49 rating (from a 1.51 to a 2.98) and 4.9 million viewers overall (7.1 million to 12.0 million) going from L+SD to L+7. Upscale: "Blacklist" is generating a strong upscale audience, indexing at a 150 among adults 18-49 living in homes with $100K+ incomes ("most current" including L+3).

"Shades of Blue" (1.3/5 in 18-49, 6.5 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. ET) retained 100% of its 1.3 rating in 18-49 on the previous Thursday featuring Republican debate competition (1.3 vs.. 1.3 on Jan. 14). "Shades" won the time period among ABC, CBS and NBC in 18-49, total viewers and nearly every other key demo and improved the time period by +22% versus what NBC was averaging this season before "Shades" (1.3 vs. 1.1, L+SD non-sports). In its first four weeks, "Shades of Blue" has delivered NBC's only four in-season regular-program wins in the Thursday 10 p.m. hour in 18-49 versus original ABC and CBS competition in nearly six years (since March 4, 2010) and has now generated NBC's four highest total-viewer results in the slot with in-season regular programming in nearly six years (since March 25, 2010, "Marriage Ref," 6.6 million).

L+3: The previous week's "Shades" grew by a best-yet +75% in 18-49 going from L+SD to L+3 (1.36 to 2.38) and by 3.8 million persons in total viewers (6.9 million vs. 10.7 million), for the #2 gains of the night on the Big 4 in 18-49 percentage and overall total viewers, behind only "Blacklist." The prior week's "Shades of Blue" added more than 800,000 full-episode views (P2+) in seven days on NBC.com and Hulu (820,730, +8% vs. the previous week's 756,461).

L+7: The Jan. 14 episode of "Shades of Blue" doubled in adult 18-49 rating going from L+SD to L+7 (1.3 to 2.6) and grew by +4.7 million persons in total viewers (6.641 million vs. 11.312 million). To date, "Shades of Blue" has grown by an average +81% in adult 18-49 rating going from L+SD to L+7 (1.57 to 2.84) and +4.8 million persons in total viewers (7.6 million vs. 12.4 million).

Friday

"Undateable" (0.8/3 in 18-49, 2.7 million viewers overall from 8-9 p.m. ET) matched its highest 18-49 rating since Oct. 16 (0.9). L+7: "Undateable" has increased by +32% this season in 18-49 rating (from a 0.77 to a 1.02) and 527,000 viewers overall (2.8 million to 3.3 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

"Grimm" (0.8/3 in 18-49, 3.8 million viewers overall from 9-10 p.m. ET) delivered its most-watched episode since the "Grimm" season premiere on Oct. 30 (4.0 million), growing +5% versus its fall finale Dec. 11 in total viewers (3.8 million vs. 3.6 million). With its first telecast in seven weeks, "Grimm" equaled the average 0.8 rating of its prior three episodes. L+7: "Grimm" has increased by +93% this season in 18-49 rating (from a 0.91 to a 1.76) and more than 2.4 million viewers overall (3.7 million to 6.2 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

"Dateline NBC" (1.4/5 in 18-49, 4.9 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. ET) reported a new season high in adults 18-49 and its highest Friday rating since Nov. 21, 2014 (1.5). In the key news demo of adults 25-54, "Dateline" matched its Friday high (1.8) since March 6, 2015 (1.9). "Dateline" won the time period among ABC, CBS and NBC in all key demographics. L+3: The previous Friday's "Dateline" increased by +19% in 18-49 going from L+SD to L+3 (1.28 to 1.52) and 852,000 persons in total viewers (5.8 million vs. 6.7 million). L+7: Friday's "Dateline NBC" has grown by +28% this season in 18-49 rating (from a 1.02 to a 1.31) and more than 1.0 million viewers overall (4.8 million to 5.9 million) going from L+SD to L+7. Upscale: "Dateline" delivers a solid upscale audience, indexing at a 108 among adults 18-49 living in homes with $100K+ incomes.

Saturday

NBC ranked #1 in Saturday primetime among the Big 4 in total viewers, with "Dateline Saturday Night Mystery" (0.9/3 in 18-49, 4.7 million viewers overall from 8-10 p.m. ET) the most-watched prime telecast on those networks. "Dateline Mystery" equaled its season high in 18-49 and grew versus its prior telecast by +29% in 18-49 (0.9 vs. 0.7 on Jan. 9).

"SNL Vintage" averaged a 0.7/3 in 18-49 and 3.1 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. ET with an encore of the Nov. 1, 2008 telecast of "Saturday Night Live" hosted by Ben Affleck with musical guest David Cook.

Sunday

"Dateline NBC" (1.0/3 in 18-49, 5.7 million viewers overall from 7-8 p.m. ET) grew +67% or 0.4 of a point in adults 18-49 versus its average so far this season with two prior Sunday 7 p.m. telecasts (1.0 vs. 0.6) and was also up by +67% in adults 25-54 (1.5 vs. 0.9) and +45% or more than 1.7 million persons in total viewers (5.7 million vs. 3.9 million). "Dateline" reported its highest 18-49, 25-54 and total-viewer results for a 7 p.m. Sunday telecast since May 31, 2015 (1.0 in 18-49, 1.6 in 25-54, 6.2 million viewers overall from 7-9 p.m.).

"American Ninja Warrior: USA Vs. The World" (1.4/4 in 18-49, 4.5 million viewers overall from 8-11 p.m. ET) was the #2 entertainment telecast of the night on the Big 4 networks in 18-49, behind only Fox's "Grease: Live." For its final hour from 10-11 p.m., "Ninja Warrior" ranked #1 among ABC, CBS and NBC in every key demo - adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54.
