Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) said that while he has disagreed with President Obama's foreign policy strategies in the past, he now feels that the President is "doing the right thing" with regard to combatting ISIS, in an interview that was broadcast live today, Sept. 29, 2014 on CBS THIS MORNING (7:00-9:00 AM) on the CBS Television Network.

"Forget about pointing fingers. I think the President is getting the right policy. I think he's doing the right thing now," the congressman told CBS THIS MORNING, adding, "but I also worry about the future of our military given the budget that he's proposing for it, and I think we need to re-address that as well."

A partial transcript of the interview is below.

CHARLIE ROSE: Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan joins us now in Studio 57. The House Budget Committee Chairman was the 2012 Republican Vice Presidential candidate. His new book is called The Way Forward: Renewing the American Idea. Congressman, welcome. First, let's reflect on the President's interview with Steve Kroft. Did you see it?

REP. PAUL RYAN: I saw clips of it this morning. I was on an airplane when it aired last night.

ROSE: The thing about "how America rolls." Do you agree with that?

RYAN: I do. The question - the thing that comes to my mind is why is he proposing a budget to devastate the Pentagon? Why is he proposing to shrink our army to a level we haven't seen since pre-World War II, our navy since pre-World War I, and our air force to the lowest level we've ever seen before? So the facts of his policies don't necessarily jive with what he's saying. I agree with what he's said, then, I think we ought to have the kind of military that can do what he says we're capable of or should be doing.
