OUIJA Rises to the Top of Fandango's Fanticipation Weekend Sales

By: Oct. 23, 2014

According to Fandango, the nation's leading moviegoer destination, the new horror film "Ouija" is calling forth spirited weekend ticket sales, giving rise to a lively 77 out of 100 points on the company's Fanticipation movie buzz indicator. A co-production of Jason Blum's Blumhouse Productions and Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes, "Ouija" is currently outselling last year's Halloween release , "Carrie," at the same point in the sales cycle on Fandango.

According to a survey of more than 1,000 "Ouija" ticket-buyers:
* 79% identify it as their Halloween season movie of choice;
* 76% are fans of previous horror productions from Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes;
* 71% plan to see the movie with a group of friends;
* 55% have played the OUIJA board game.

"It's surprising there's never been a OUIJA movie until now," says Dave Karger, Chief Correspondent for Fandango. "The board game concept makes for a great storytelling device and it's now the top Halloween movie that fans want to see with a group of friends."

For horror movie fans, Fandango offers a special hub dedicated to the genre, called "House of Screams" at www.fandango.com/houseofscreams. Featured in the section are exclusive videos, the "Scare Off" sweepstakes, and original movie-inspired artwork including a retro travel poster for Camp Crystal Lake from "Friday the 13th"(http://www.fandango.com/movie-news/exclusive-camp-crystal-lake-art-748484) and a fun interactive quiz on "Which Horror Movie Character Best Suits You?" at http://www.fandango.com/movie-news/quiz-find-out-which-horror-movie-character-best-suits-you-748469.

About Fandango's Fanticipation

Known for having its finger on the pulse of moviegoers, Fandango's movie buzz indicator, Fanticipation, provides statistical insight into the movies fans are planning to see in a given weekend. Fanticipation scores (based on a 1 to 100-point scale) are calculated via an algorithm of Fandango's advance ticket sales, website and mobile traffic, and social media engagement. Fanticipation is not intended as a forecast of the weekend box office; it is a snapshot of movie fan sentiment.
