NBC Tops All Networks for 2014 State of the Union Post-Speech Coverage

NBC News was the most-watched broadcast or cable television network for analysis immediately following President Obama's 2014 State of the Union address. For coverage of the speech itself, NBC drew more viewers in the key demographics of ages 18-49 and 25-54 than any other television network.

The live broadcast was anchored by Brian Williams with David Gregory, Chuck Todd, Andrea Mitchell, and Kelly O'Donnell.

STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS
· NBC News' coverage of President Obama's fifth State of the Union Address (9-10:19 PM) averaged 6.984 million total viewers, +25% (+1,415,000) ahead of ABC and +169% (+4,391,000) ahead of Fox.
· NBC posted total viewer growth from its 8:30-9pm lead-in (up +7%, or +461,000 from The Biggest Loser) while CBS shed -36% (-4,269,000) of its NCIS half-hour lead-in.
· NBC ranked #1 during the speech in all key 18-49 and 25-54 demo ratings.
· In rating Adults 18-49, NBC delivered a 1.7 rating, topping CBS by +31% (+4 tenths), ABC by +42% (+5 tenths) and FOX by +89% (+8 tenths).
· In rating Adults 25-54, NBC delivered a 2.1 rating, outperforming CBS by +11% (+2 tenths), ABC by +24% (+4 tenths), and FOX by +110% (+1.1 rating points).
· Among A25-54 viewers, NBC averaged 2.467 million viewers, beating CBS by +9% (+198,000), ABC by +24% (+477,000), and FOX by +107% (+1,277,000).
· Compared to the 2013 SOTU Address, NBC grew in total viewers (+8%, or +514,000) and rating W18-49 (+6%).

*Fox's SOTU coverage was rated from 9:00-10:42 PM.

SOTU ANALYSIS
· NBC's head-to-head SOTU analysis (10:20-10:31 PM) ranked #1 in total viewers and all key 18-49 and 25-54 demo ratings.
· The NBC analysis averaged 6.702 million total viewers, +2% (+144,000) more than CBS and +20% (+1,137,000) ahead of ABC.
· In rating A18-49, NBC delivered a 1.7, topping CBS by +42% (+5 tenths) and ABC by +31% (+4 tenths).
· In rating A25-54, NBC delivered a 2.1, beating both CBS and ABC by +24% (+4 tenths).
· Among A25-54 viewers, NBC averaged 2.537 million viewers, outperforming ABC by +24% (+490,000) and CBS by +26% (+522,000).
