After weeks of speculation, ET reports exclusively that Melissa McCarthy will not be reprising her role of chef Sookie St. James in Netflix's upcoming GILMORE GIRLS reboot. "I am thrilled that they are doing it," McCarthy told ET's Kevin Frazier while promoting her upcoming film The Boss. "I am not doing it."

The comedian, who starred on the series for seven seasons, also shared that she does not know how 'Gilmore' creator Amy Sherman-Palladino will handle her character's absence from Stars Hollow. Her fictional husband on the show, Jackson Douglas, will be returning to the series. McCarthy went on to say that she remains a loyal fan of the show, commenting, "I will watch it. I am excited to see it."

Netflix announced back in January that it will produce four 90-minute 'mini movies', written and directed by series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and executive producer Daniel Palladino.

Series stars Lauren Graham (Broadway's GUYS AND DOLLS), Alexis Bledel, Kelly Bishop (Broadway's ANYTHING GOES) and Scott Patterson are all reprising their roles. Also returning are Sean Gunn and Keiko Agena. Sutton Foster has also signed on for the show, although it remains unclear who she will portray or how many episodes she will appear in.

GILMORE GIRLS was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, and starred Lauren Grahamand Alexis Bledel. On October 5, 2000, the series debuted on the WB and remained a tent-pole to the network until it was canceled in its seventh season, ending on May 15, 2007 on the CW.

The show followed single mother Lorelai Gilmore (Graham) and her daughter, also named Lorelai but who prefers to be called Rory (Bledel), living in the fictional town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut. The town is filled with colorful characters and is located approximately 30 minutes from Hartford, Connecticut.

Gilmore Girls was known for its fast-paced dialogue filled with pop-culture references. The show earned several award nominations, winning one Emmy Award. It was also critically acclaimed placing No. 32 on Entertainment Weekly‍‍?'?‍s "New TV Classics" list, and was listed as one of Time magazine's "All-TIME 100 TV Shows" in 2007. (source)
