As BWW reported last week, Ben Affleck has been set to star as Batman, a.k.a. Bruce Wayne in the next movie installment. The actor and filmmaker Zack Snyder will create an entirely new incarnation of the character in Snyder's as-yet-untitled project-bringing Batman and Superman together for The First Time on the big screen and continuing the director's vision of their universe, which he established in "Man of Steel." Warner Bros. has slated the film to open worldwide on July 17, 2015.

Following the announcement, there has been a rush of backlash and complaining from 'Batman' fans around the world. In a recent interview with the Times of India, Matt Damon responded to the harsh criticism of his close friend and co-star.

"I think it will be great. It will be terrific," said Damon of the casting. "I know there are a lot of people grousing on the Internet. I just think it's kind of funny. You know, he's not playing King Lear. It's Batman! Certainly within his skill set. If anybody saw Argo or The Town, and all the work he's been doing lately, it's way more nuanced and interesting and way more difficult than Batman! Batman just sits there with his cowl over his head and whispers in a kinda gruff voice at people. Bruce Wayne is the more challenging part of the role, and Ben will be great at that."

The Oscar winner joked that he has to plans to appear as the Caped Crusader's loyal sidekick. "It's safe to say I won't be Robin. I am a little older than Ben. I never saw Robin as older than Batman."
