Marriage Equality Campaign Featured on Next METROFOCUS

The next edition of the award-winning program MetroFocus premieres in the New York metro area Wednesday, August 7 at 7:30 p.m. on WLIW21 and Thursday, August 8 at 8:30 p.m. on THIRTEEN and at 10:30 p.m. on NJTV.

The next edition of MetroFocus features the campaign to bring marriage equality to New Jersey and what New York activists plan next to make same sex marriage the law of all fifty states. NJ Today reporter Lauren Wanko reports on the New Jersey campaign to overturn Governor Chris Christie's veto of legislation that legalized same sex marriage in the Garden State. MetroFocus host Rafael Pi Roman follows up with an in-depth interview with Evan Wolfson, president and founder of Freedom to Marry, the New York City-based group that was instrumental in getting marriage equality legalized in 13 states and the District of Columbia.

As part of the continuing MetroFocus' NYC Votes 2013 project, Democratic mayoral candidate Sal Albanese joins Pi Roman to discuss his latest run for mayor. Albanese tells Pi Roman "...Sandy hit last year and I was really disappointed in the way the city and the state prepared for a storm that really was predicted years ago. And I said, we have a reactive government. Talked to my family and said, you know I believe I can make a difference; I can make the city a better place. So I think that there's a real opportunity for change so I decided to run for mayor."

One of New York's most famous summer destinations, Lake George, is the subject of a report from Albany public TV's news program New York Now. Scientists from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute , IBM and The FUND for Lake George have launched The Jefferson Project to make the lake "smart" using new technology and underwater sensors. And finally, take a walk to the first ever Google Geek Street Fair and find out why the tech giant wants New York's students to start thinking about science, technology, engineering and math sooner rather than later.
