Margot Robbie in Talks to Star in BARBIE

Margot Robbie is attached to star in the Mattel feature film "Barbie," according to Variety.

The Oscar-nominated actress is also on board to produce with Mattel president Robbie Brenner. The film was previously set up at Sony, but after the option passed, Mattel took back the rights.

The original script with Sony had Amy Schumer set to star, but she dropped out due to scheduling conflicts and there were rumors that Anne Hathaway would replace Schumer, but the original script had a more adult comedy tone. It is unsure if the original script will be used moving forward.

The BARBIE doll is a global brand powerhouse, with sales of over $3 billion worldwide. BARBIE has taken on more than 150 roles through her 50+ years, including princess, president, mermaid, and movie star.

Robbie can be seen next as Queen Elizabeth in "Mary Queen of Scots," and she is currently filming Quentin Tarantino's "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood," where she plays actress Sharon Tate.
