MANOLO: THE BOY WHO MADE SHOES FOR LIZARDS offers an in-depth chronicle of celebrated fashion designer Manolo Blahnik and how his remarkable dedication to his craft led him to become the world's most famous luxury shoemaker, an icon revered by celebrities, stylists, industry luminaries, and fashion lovers everywhere.

Directed by longtime fashion journalist Michael Roberts, MANOLO: THE BOY WHO MADE SHOES FOR LIZARDS follows Blahnik from his childhood in the remote city of Santa Cruz de la Palma, in Spain's Canary Islands, to his beginnings as a shoemaker and designer, up through his first store opening in London in 1973 and coming of age in the fashion capitals of the world, where he now has shops and?department store concessions in over 20 countries. And through it all-through Madonna offering that his shoes are "better than sex" and Carrie Bradshaw getting mugged in an episode of Sex and The City as she begs to hold onto her signature pair of '--Blahnik has retained full control of his business, still creating every shoe and even hand-carving the wooden forms himself. ?


MANOLO: THE BOY WHO MADE SHOES FOR LIZARDS 's never-before-seen peek into Blahnik's world features a "Who's Who" of the fashion and entertainment industries, which include commentary from such bold-faced names as Anna Wintour, Rihanna, PALOMA Picasso, Iman, Naomi Campbell, Rupert Everett, Karlie Kloss, Isaac Mizrahi, and André Leon Talley. ?

"Although I am never completely relaxed and comfortable when a camera is hovering in the vicinity - I have managed to adjust," said Manolo Blahnik on having his life chronicled by first-time feature filmmaker Michael Roberts, who was given complete creative freedom by his subject. "I am very happy with the documentary, the images are exquisite and they represent real glimpses of my life; designing shoes, long periods working at the manufacturers, or enjoying the tranquility of an English country garden."

Music Box Films Home Entertainment will release MANOLO: THE BOY WHO MADE SHOES FOR LIZARDS on DVD for the first time on December 12, 2017 ( November 7, 2017). The DVD, which includes a making-of featurette with director Michael Roberts as a bonus feature, carries the suggested retail price of $29.95. The film arrives early via Digital Download on iTunes beginning December 4, 2017.

And-yes! While growing up in the Canary Islands, young Manolo Blahnik did actually make shoes from candy wrappers for the lizards he caught in his family's garden. Dogs, too!
