Deadline writes that Larry Charles (Bruno) has signed on to direct the film adaptation of Bill Bryson's 1998 travel memoir A WALK IN THE WOODS. Robert Redford and Nick Nolte will star.

"Growing up in the wilds of Brooklyn, you can see why I was the natural choice to direct A Walk In The Woods. I didn't see a tree till I was 27," Charles told Deadline. "A Walk In The Woods is not merely about a hike. It is an epic, intense, absurd journey through our collective past, present and future. A journey outward and inward. A journey into darkness but also into the light. And I am honored and humbled to take that walk with Robert Redford and Nick Nolte. Two true bonafide icons of American cinema. Does anyone have bug spray?"

A WALK IN THE WOODS has been adapted as a big screen comedy by Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine) and follows a middle-aged travel writer who decides to hike all 2,000 miles of the Appalachian Trail with an old High School friend.

Charles has helmed The Dictator, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Bruno, Religulous, Masked and Anonymous, Borat and more.

Redford's Wildwood Enterprises and Bill Holderman are producing with Route One Films' Chip Diggins.
