According to the Hollywoodreporter.com, superstar Lady Gaga will make an appearance in a year-end special New Year's Eve show in Japan.  The musical TV show will be broadcast on the Japanese national broadcast network NHK and is entitled, 'Kohaku Uta Gassen', which translates to the 'Red and White Singing Contest'.

The four-hour telecast is an annual tradition in Japan and showcases top musical performers in the country. Female singers, ' The Red' compete against male singers 'The White' in a good natured competition. Last year the show earned a 37% viewership rating. Lady Gaga will be part of the show's 62-year tradition of including a performance by an international artist.

The singer appeared last Friday on Japan's weekly music show 'Music Station'.  The request for her appearance on 'Kohaku' came directly from the NHK.  Though Lady Gaga will be in appearing live from Times Square on ABC's 'Dick Clark's Rockin' New Years Eve, she will broadcast live to Japan  from New York during the mid-morning hours of December 31st in order to coincide with the broadcast time in Japan.

The singer has strongly supported the nation of Japan since it has faced both an earthquake and tsunami in recent years.  She recently issued "We Pray for Japan" bracelets in order to raise money for victims of the disasters.
