The Bride!, written, directed and produced by Maggie Gyllenhaal, will make its global streaming debut exclusively on HBO Max on Friday, May 22. The film will debut on HBO linear on Saturday, May 23 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
The Warner Bros. pic stars Academy Award, BAFTA and Golden Globe winners Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale, with Academy Award nominees Annette Bening and Jake Gyllenhaal and winner Penélope Cruz.
A version of The Bride! with American Sign Language (ASL) will also stream exclusively on HBO Max the same day, performed by ASL Dubber Yamila Davis and directed by Rosa Lee Timm (“Sinners with BASL,” “Minecraft with ASL”).
A reimagined take on the Bride of Frankenstein, the film follows "Frank," a lonely Frankenstein-like figure (Bale) who travels to 1930s Chicago to ask groundbreaking scientist Dr. Euphronious (Bening) for a companion. The two revive a murdered young woman, and The Bride (Buckley) is born, thus sparking a tale of murder, romance, and law-breaking exploits. The movie also features some big-scale song-and-dance numbers, including those from Gyllenhaal, Bale, and Buckley.
Peter Sarsgaard and Oscar-winner Penélope Cruz round out the cast for the film, which debuted in theaters in March. Maggie Gyllenhaal directs from her own screenplay and produces alongside Oscar nominee Emma Tillinger Koskoff, Talia Kleinhendler and Osnat Handelsman Keren. Executive producers are Carla Raij, David Webb and Courtney Kivowitz.
