Variety reports that Jared Leto will take on the role of Hugh Hefner in an untitled biopic from director Brett Ratner. The news is timely as the Playboy founder passed away on September 27th at the age of 91.

According to the site, Hefner had given his approval for the project, commenting, "In recent years there has been plenty of interest and much conversation about doing a feature film based on my life. I have always believed that when the timing was truly right, the perfect creative partners would come together for this project. I believe we've found those partners in Brett Ratner and RatPac Entertainment. I'm very much looking forward to this collaboration."

Leto won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 2013's DALLAS BUYERS CLUB. He recently starred as the Joker in last year's SUICIDE SQUAD. Next up will be BLADE RUNNER 2049. The film, hitting theaters this Friday, co-stars Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford.
