'Hurt Locker' Helmer Bigelow to Direct Logan-Penned HBO Pilot About Broadway

Academy Award-nominee and 'Hurt Locker' Director Kathryn Bigelow will direct "The Miraculous Year," a new pilot for HBO, according to Variety. Variety reports that John Logan serves as the writer, executive producer and creator of the show, which tells the story of a full-of-life, but self-destructive Broadway composer and his family.

According to Variety, Bigelow, a close friend of Logan's, will also executive produce the pilot alongside Lydia Pilcher.

John Logan will be making his own Broadway debut this spring when his critically acclaimed RED will open on Broadway at the John Golden Theatre on April 1st.

RED is a biopic of Mark Rothko, the 20th century painter known for his large canvases of color. Under the watchful gaze of his young assistant and the threatening presence of a new generation of artists, Mark Rothko takes on his greatest of creating a definitive work for an extraordinary setting. The play details Rothko's struggle to accept his growing riches and praise, and how they lead to his ultimate downfall. The play stars Alfred Molina and Eddie Redmayne.

RED opened December 8, 2009 at the Donmar Warehouse to raves. On Broadway, RED will star Alfred Molina and Eddie Redmayne, who created their roles in the world premiere production this winter at the Donmar. The production will be directed by Donmar artistic director Michael Grandage.

The production is designed by Christopher Oram, with lighting design by Neil Austin. Composer and sound designer is Adam Cork. RED will be produced by Arielle Tepper Madover.
