HOTEL RWANDA Screenwriter Keir Pearson to Pen Mother Teresa Movie I THIRST

Variety reports that HOTEL RWANDA screenwriter Keir Pearson has been tapped to write the script for a possible Mother Teresa biopic. Indie producers Tony Krantz and Jamey Volk are working with The Mother Teresa Center on the project, titled I THIRST.

"Keir's presentation and his Oscar nominated script of HOTEL RWANDA and his sensitive script for CHAVEZ made him the perfect choice," Krantz said in a statement. "I THIRST is the first and only authorized film about the life of Mother Teresa on the big screen. We couldn't be more excited for this movie about a woman who stood for total commitment, faith, charity and love."

The film will center on Mother Teresa's life in Calcutta in the 1950s, where she founded the Missionaries of Charity. The nun won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 and had established many orphanages and charity organizations across the globe by the time of her death in 1997. The movie will include Mother Teresa's struggles with doubt in addition to her triumphs.

The goal is to begin filming late this year for a release in spring or summer of 2015.
