Deadline reports that HBO has put the breaks on their planned drama pilot THE MONEY, written by David Milch and directed by Justin Chadwick. The project was to center on James Castman (Brendan Gleeson), a super-elite mogul and patriarch who uses his power to control his business and his family.

Broadway vet Nathan Lane was set to portray Gordon McCarren, described as a reporter whose job with the New York Herald is in dire straits unless he finds a juicy story. Tony nominee Billy Magnussnen, along with Patrick Kennedy, Dominique McElligott, Laila Robins and Morgan Spector also co-starred in the pilot, with Ray Liotta, John Carroll Lynch, Rosemary Harris and Mamie Gummer playing recurring roles.

Lane received Emmy nominations for his recent guest-starring roles in The Good Wife and Modern Family. He recently finished his Broadway run in The Nance, which was recorded and is set to be broadcast in the 'Live from Lincoln Center' series in 2014. Lane was nominated for a Tony Award for his portrayal of 'Chauncey Miles' in the play.

The two-time Tony winner has also appeared on Broadway in The Producers, Guys and Dolls, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, The Addams Family and more. His film credits include The Birdcage, The Lion King and more.
