GMA is No. 1 for July Sweep

ABC News' "Good Morning America" ranked as the No. 1 morning newscast during the July 2013 Sweep in Total Viewers (5.020 million) and Adults 25-54 (1.793 million), according to Nielsen Media Research. Continuing its success over the past year, "GMA" won all 4 sweeps periods of the 2012-13 television season in both Nielsen measures.

Claiming its 5th straight Total Viewer sweep win, "GMA" marked its first back-to-back July sweep victory in overall viewers in 20 years - since July 1992 and July 1993. In addition, "GMA" turned in its first July sweep win in Adults 25-54 in 19 years - since July 1994.

In overall viewers and in the news demo, "GMA" outperformed the No. 2-ranked NBC's "Today Show" (4.402 million and 1.735 million) by its largest July sweep margins in both Total Viewers (+618,000) and Adults 25-54 (+58,000) in more than 21 years - since before the November 1991 sweep; Nielsen's electronic database started on September of 1991.

Compared to the year-earlier July 2012 sweep (4.598 million and 1.721 million, respectively), "GMA" improved in both Total Viewers (+9%) and Adults 25-54 (+4%). Further, building on the year-ago July sweep in both measures for the 3rd year in a row, "GMA" attracted its largest overall July sweep audience in more than 21 years - since before the November 1991 sweep.

"GMA" outdelivered CBS' "This Morning" during the month in both Total Viewers (+84%) and Adults 25-54 (+96%). "GMA" saw its largest news demo advantage (880,000) over the CBS program during a July sweep in 7 years - since July 2006.

Week of July 22, 2013

ABC News' "Good Morning America" was the No. 1 morning news program in Total Viewers (5.100 million) and Adults 25-54 (1.806 million) for the week of July 22, 2013, according to Nielsen Media Research. "GMA" outperformed NBC's "Today Show" (4.533 million and 1.740 million, respectively) by +567,000 Total Viewers and by +66,000 Adults 25-54. "GMA" widened its lead over "Today" compared to its year-ago advantages in both overall viewers and in the key adult news demo (+542,000 and +12,000, respectively, on w/o 7/23/12). Also, GoodMorningAmerica.com on Yahoo! reached 24.4 million users last month. It is the No. 1 morning news website and beats Today.com by millions of users each month.

"GMA" has ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers in all 43 weeks of the season, turning in its highest number of No. 1 finishes in a season in 21 years - since 1991-92. In addition the morning newscast has ranked No. 1 every week in Total Viewers for nearly a year (the last 49 weeks - since w/o 8/13/12). "GMA's" 49 consecutive weeks at the top stand as its longest stretch at No. 1 in more than 21 years - since before the 1991-92 season.

Leading the week in Adults 25-54, "GMA" has ranked No. 1 in 35 of the 43 weeks this season. The ABC morning program is delivering its most number of No. 1 finishes in the key adult news demo during a season in 21 years - since the 1991-92 season.

"GMA" was up over the same week last year in Total Viewers (+5% - 4.837 million on w/o 7/23/12), building on the year-ago week in overall viewers in all 43 weeks this season.

Season to date, "GMA" is the No. 1 morning news program in Total Viewers and Adults 25-54. The ABC show is leading "Today" by its largest season margin in overall viewers (+656,000) in more than 21 years and in the adult news demo (+78,000) in 20 years - since before the 1991-92 season and the 1992-93 season, respectively; Nielsen's electronic database started on September of 1991.

Season to date, "GMA" is up in both Total Viewers (+9%) and Adults 25-54 (+3%) versus its year-ago averages, growing the most in the key adult news demo (NBC's "Today" is down -11%/-16%, respectively; CBS' "This Morning" is up +13%/+2%, respectively). "GMA" is seeing its largest overall season audience in more than 21 years and best Adult 25-54 performance in 5 years - since before the 1991-92 season and 2007-08 seasons, respectively.

"GMA" beat "CBS This Morning" across all key target demo: Total Viewers (+81%), Adults 25-54 (+97%) and Adults 18-49 (+88%).
