As first reported in today's NY Times Arts Beat, characters from GLEE's New Directions choir will soon be featured in four upcoming issues of the Archie comic book series. The animated GLEE stars will find themselves face to face with the gang from Riverdale High.

Archie Comics announced that it will publish the four-part storyline, to be titled “Archie Meets Glee,” in which characters Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead meet up with the students of the FOX musical drama. The series will hit stands next year as part of the publisher’s “Archie” series. It will be illustrated by Dan Parent and written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who is a GLEE writer and producer. Aguirre-Sacasa has penned many comic-book series and was a contributor to the book of the Broadway musical “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.”

In a statement, Mr. Aguirre-Sacasa commented, “I’ve been wanting to write something for Archie Comics forever and my favorite Archie stories have always been those weird crossovers like ‘Archie Meets the Punisher’ and ‘Archie Meets KISS.’” He continued, “I thought, Archie meets ‘Glee’ would be a great crossover since they’re both set in high schools, they’re both optimistic, they both involve singing.”

Archie Comics has not yet released details as to which GLEE characters would be involved in the issues or which songs, if any, they will perform in the storyline.
