Variety reports that Brad Falchuk, co-creator of the Fox musical drama series GLEE, will pen the screenplay for an upcoming DIRTY DANCING remake from Lionsgate. The original 1987 blockbuster film was written by Maria Maggenti and starred Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze

According to the report, the reboot of the classic film will include songs from the 1960's as well as hit tunes from the original film and all-new compositions. Kenny Ortega, director of Disney's 'High School Musical' franchise and the original film's choreographer, will direct and produce the updated version along with Debra Martin Chase.

The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 26, 2013.

In addition to co-creating GLEE, Brad Falchuk also co-created FX's "American Horror Story" with Ryan Murphy. He is currently teaming up with Murphy and GLEE's Ian Brennan for the musical comedy "One Hit Wonders" from Sony Pictures.
