Drag Race's Alexis Michelle Brings Cabaret Act To French Quarter

One Eyed Jacks welcomes, for one night only, Alexis Michelle, one of the last queens left standing on RuPaul's Drag Race Season 9, in her new one woman show ALEXIS, I AM!

"Breathe in... I. Breathe out... Am." This simple meditation has seen Alexis Michelle through the most exciting and challenging year of her career. From the exhilaration of being thrust into the reality tv spotlight to the struggles of the social media age, Alexis has lived it all and is stronger for it. Through a repertoire of songs made famous by divas like Liza, Judy, Barbra, and Gaga as well as some of her own signature tunes, including "Thank You for Being a Friend", Alexis shares the experiences that have challenged her and have made her brave enough to say "ALEXIS, I AM!"

Celebrated New Orleans singer Anaïs St. John joins Alexis as a special guest for this engagement.

Alexis, I Am! features music direction by Brandon James Gwinn. The evening is written and directed by James Will McBride. It is produced by James Will McBride, C. Patrick Gendusa, and Michael Benedetti of Executive PR and Talent. The evening will be co-presented by Fifi Mahony's.

Alexis Michelle is a native New Yorker who has yet to do jury duty. NYC's premiere theatrical queen; Alexis was one of the last queens left standing on Season 9 of RuPaul's Drag Race on MTV. On the show, Alexis received praise for her spot on impression of Liza Minelli in Snatch Game and acclaim for her portrayal of Kris Jenner in Kardashian the Musical. Since RPDR, Alexis has toured the country and played venues around the world. Alexis got her training in the University of Michigan's musical theatre program. In the spring of 2017, Alexis premiered her debut cabaret act It Takes a Woman at Feinstein's/54 Below. When she's not on stage performing shows at clubs and bars across the country you'll probably find her in the garment district of NYC buying fabric and wholesale jewelry.

Anaïs St. John is a sultry songstress and a seasoned performer at jazz, opera and musical theater. She has just completed a residency as the featured performer at the Windsor Court Hotel. She holds a master's degree in vocal performance and years of experience as a music educator. A longtime headliner at Jazz Live at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, she has graced the stages at some of New Orleans's most revered jazz clubs including Snug Harbor, D.B.A. and Le Chat Noir. Anaïs has been featured in several international Jazz Festivals. Most recently, Jazz Ascona in Switzerland, and Umbria Jazz Fest in Italy. She has also been a staple at the annual French Quarter Festival as well as at New Orleans Jazz Fest, Bayou Boogaloo and Satchmo Fest. Anaïs was recently named one of New Orleans Magazine Top Female Achievers.

Brandon James Gwinn is the composer and co-lyricist of Cotton Candy & Cocaine, Queer. People. Time., and Underwear A Space Musical which premiered in the 2008 New York International Fringe Festival and was an invited production at the 2012 American College Theatre Festival. His music and lyrics for Matchmaker Matchmaker I'(M) Willing to Settle premiered at The American Repertory Theatre in Boston and the 2011 New York Musical Theatre Festival. Brandon is also the composer and co-lyricist of the New York Theatre Barn Commission Small Town Story which received the National Alliance of Musical Theatre Writer's Residency Grant, was a finalist for the Richard Rodgers award, was featured in the Village Theatre New Musicals Festival in Seattle, and was subsequently produced in workshop at the University of Hartford. A critically lauded singer-songwriter and music director, he has arranged and played shows in Beijing, LA, San Francisco, Miami, and in New York at Feinstein's, Birdland, Joe's Pub, 54 Below and on Fire Island. He has been an artist in residence at Ars Nova and is a 2015-2016 Dramatists Guild Fellow. MFA from NYU's Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program.

James Will McBride has conceived and produced concerts and cabaret at Feinstein's/54 Below in New York City as well as venues in Houston, New Orleans, DC and Hartford. His theatrical directing credits include Tauris, War Prayer, The Little Ghost, and The Retreating World. He served as resident assistant director at Hartford Stage for two seasons and is a former Directing Candidate in The American Theatre Wing's SpringBoardNYC program. He's assisted directors including Darko Tresnjak, Kent Thompson, Mark Lamos, Michael Wilson, and Giovanna Sardelli. He directed the NYC premiere of Naomi Wallace's The War Boys. C. Patrick Gendusa has worked professionally as a performer, director, and instructor in New York, Texas, New Mexico, Virginia, and Louisiana. He received a BA in Theatre Arts from St. Edwards University and his MFA in Acting and Directing from Texas Tech University. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor of Theatre at Loyola University New Orleans. Patrick was chosen as one of only fourteen theatre professionals to participate in the prestigious The Actors Center Teacher Development Program in New York City. He has taught theatre at the University of Richmond and Texas Tech University. He was head of the Department of Theatre at Holy Cross School. While in Austin, Texas he was vice-president of the Zilker Summer Musical, the only free outdoor theatre remaining in the country. He also toured with and was a founding member of the Second Youth Theatre Company and the Kinesis Dance Theatre Company. In New York he had a cabaret act called Chemistry where he taught musical theatre and acting.
