USA Today reports that NBC has greenlit 13 episodes of a sequel to the 1990's hit ABC comedy series COACH. The show's original star, Craig T. Nelson will reprise his role of Heyden FOX from the series which ran for nine seasons, before signing off the airwaves in 1997.

According to the report, the latest version of the show "picks up in the present day, 18 years after the original ended. A retired Hayden becomes an assistant coach to his own grown son, who is the new head coach at an Ivy League school in Pennsylvania that is starting up a new team."

Original series creator Barry Kemp will pen the new series and he and Nelson will serve as executive producers.

Nelson most recently starred on NBC's PARENTHOOD, opposite Lauren Graham and Peter Krause. He has appeared in such films as POLTERGEIST, THE PROPOSAL, THE INCREDIBLES, and more.
