The Associated Press is reporting that composer Joseph Brooks, most notable for his ballad, 'You Light Up My Life', which earned him an Oscar for Best Original Song in 1977, has settled a lawsuit with his former fiancee whom he accused of deceiving him and conning him out of cash and material possessions.

Last October, Brooks launched a suit against his 23-year-old ex-fiancee, Joaly Gomez, seeking at least $2 million in damages and the return of the money, as well as gifts which included a $60,000 engagement ring, and a $70,000 Mercedes-Benz. Brooks claimed that Gomez did not disclose to him that she was already married, though Gomez, and her lawyers, claim that Brooks knew of her situation all along.

The terms of the settlement are not known, though court records show that Gomez can keep most of the disputed $550,000 unless they struck a deal to share it.
