USA Today reports that Oscar-winning actor Chris Cooper will take on the role of reclusive author J.D. SALINGER in a new drama for the big screen.

Titled COMING THROUGH THE RYE, the film was written and will be helmed by Jim Sadwith. It is described as a "coming-of-age drama set in 1969 that focuses on two teenagers, played by Alex Wolff and Stefania Owen, as they search for Salinger."

The film will be based on Sadwith's own search for the 'Catcher in the Rye' writer and his meetings with him. The iconic novel, published in 1951, follows protagonist Holden Caulfield. SALINGER died in 2010 at the age of 91. For the majority of his life, he attempted to live an anonymous, small-town life in New Hampshire.

Cooper earned an Academy Award for best supporting actor in 2002's Adaptation.
