Cate Blanchett, Mia Wasilowska to Star in CAROL

Deadline.com reports that Cate Blanchett and Mia Wasikowska will join the cast of the film adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's CAROL (aka 'The Price of Salt). Highsmith is best known for her works 'Strangers on a Train' and 'The Talented Mr. Ripley'. The film will be directed by 'Intermissions' John Crowley with Phyllis Nagy adapting the screenplay from Highsmith's novella.

Elizabeth Karlsen and Stephen Woolley's Number 9 Films will produce the film which is set to begin filming in February 2013 on location in London and New York.

CAROL tells the story of "the complex relationship between two very different women in 1950s New York. One, a girl in her 20s working in a department store who dreams of a more fulfilling life, and the other, a wife trapped in a loveless, moneyed marriage."

Blanchett, an Academy Award-winning actress, came to international attention for her role as Elizabeth I of England in the 1998 biopic film Elizabeth, for which she won British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) and Golden Globe Awards, and earned her first Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. She appeared as the elf queen Galadriel in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy from 2001 to 2003.

In 2004, Blanchett's portrayal of Katharine Hepburn in Martin Scorsese's The Aviator brought her numerous awards, including an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Blanchett's other films include Babel (2006), Notes on a Scandal (2006), Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008), and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008).
