Netflix continues to break boundaries between the worlds of Hollywood and streaming services with its first day-and-date movie premiere -- a sequel to Ang Lee's CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON. Variety writes that after reaching a deal with The Weinstein Co., the movie will hit IMAX theaters and Netflix on August 28, 2015.

"Fans will have unprecedented choice in how they enjoy an amazing and memorable film that combines intense action and incredible beauty," Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said in a statement. "We are honored to be working with Harvey Weinstein and a world-class team of creatures to bring this epic story to people all over the world and to partner with IMAX, a brand that represents the highest quality of immersive entertainment, in the distribution of film."

Weinstein added: "The moviegoing experience is evolving quickly and profoundly, and Netflix is unquestionably at the forefront of that movement."

Netflix's deal with TWC also makes the company the exclusive Internet-streaming service for several first-run TWC films beginning in 2016, along with the new original series MARCO POLO, among other projects.

CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON: THE GREEN LEGEND will feature original star Michelle Yeoh and Donnie Yen (Ip Man) and will be helmed by martial arts choreographer Yuen Wo-Ping (The Matrix, Kill Bill) from a script adapted from Wang Dulu's IRON KNIGHT, SILVER VASE by John Fusco (Marco Polo). Also in the cast are Harry Shum Jr, Jason Scott Lee, Roger Yuan, Eugenia Uyan and Natasha Liu Bordizzo.
