Adam McKay will write and direct the feature, which will also star Christian Bale and Ryan Gosling.

Lewis's nonfiction work "The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine" follows "the build-up of the housing and credit bubble during the 2000s that led to the financial crisis of 2007-2010" and centers on "several key people who played a role in creating the disastrous credit bubble."

Pitt's Plan B has also worked on Moneyball, 12 YEARS A SLAVE and current MLK biopic Selma.

Pitt will next be seen in By the Sea. He recently appeared on the big screen in Fury, The Counselor, 12 Years a Slave and World War Z.

Bale's upcoming projects include Knight of Cups, The Creed of Violence and Jungle Book: Origins. He last appeared in the films Exodus: Gods and Kings, American Hustle and The Dark Knight Rises.

Gosling is currently working on The Nice Guys and recently starred in Only God Forgives, Gangster Squad, The Place Beyond the Pines, Drive, Blue Valentine, The Notebook and more.
