Deadline.com reports that Blair Underwood has just signed a major "development/talent holding deal" with Universal Television. The actor will work with the studio to develop a starring vehicle for himself which he will also produce along with Tagline Television. The agreement will allow Universal to cast Underwood in a different project if the one under current development does not come to fruition.

Underwood has a long history with NBC and Universal TV, beginning with his TV debut on 'The Cosby Show'. He also appeared on the long running NBC drama series, 'LA Law' and  recently played the President in 2011's 'The Event.' The actor's other TV credits include HBO’s In Treatment, for which he earned a Golden Globe nomination, CBS’ The New Adventures Of Old Christine and ABC’s Dirty Sexy Money.

Underwood recently made his Broadway debut in the role of Stanley in Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire for which he earned a 2012 Drama League Distinguished Performance Award nomination. He will reprise the role at the West End's Wyndham Theatre this fall. The play is set to run for 16 weeks.
