This whole "Mid-season finale" fad is a new tactic over the past few years to justify going off the air for a few months during the holidays, right? I don't remember this being a thing in the past. Regardless, we have arrived at that point in THE ORIGINALS, as well. In the penultimate episode of 2014, we are getting ready for the family showdowns of all showdowns.

The Wolves

While Jackson is still drinking away his sorrow at the deaths of Oliver and Hansell, Hayley uncovers a way to free the pack from Esther's control. If she, as Alpha of her pack, and Jackson, as Alpha of his, were to marry, the rest of the pack would adapt all of their powers. Meaning, they would all be hybrids and not need Esther's rings. Hayley is hesitant, I mean, there's that whole Elijah thing, but she agrees to marry Jackson to save the pack. I'm guessing that may not go over well with the Mikelson bros.

The Witch

Davina let's Marcel know that she lost the White Oak Stake, but he corrects her that Klaus has it as well as Kol. She isn't happy. After pretending she wants to meet Josh's new boyfriend, Aidan, she slips out into the secret lair and creates a potion that will poison her blood if Klaus bites her. (And he does). She misses out, yet again, on her chance to kill him when the rest of the group needs his help.

That Human

Cami seems to have no recollection of her confrontation with Esther, she just feels groggy. After she and Hayley have a little girl talk about those crazy brothers they love, Hayley notices Cami has puncture wounds up and down her spine. Kol informs her that Esther has prepped her body to be a vessel for someone to jump into. She confronts Vincent/Finn and says she will never host his mother in her body. He lets her know that she is being prepped to host Rebekah, not Esther.

The Vamps

Rebekah figures out that Esther has located her and lets her brothers know. Elijah takes off to help her. Meanwhile, Marcel and Klaus take turns torturing Kol and Finn to persuade them to join in their effort to bring down Esther. Kol eventually concedes, but Finn just isn't having it. He finally reveals to Klaus the truth about Freya and that Esther wasn't trying to steal Hope, she was protecting her because Dalia is after her. Once Elijah reaches Rebekah, we see that Esther's brainwashing is a little more complicated than we thought as he kills everyone in the restaurant. Rebekah notices the blood on his sleeve and snaps his neck. (I mean, Elijah would never stand for a stain on his sleeve...) She calls Klaus who gets the cavalry together to go save Hope.

So it looks like Hayley and Klaus will finally be reunited with their daughter, but at what cost? Is my dear, sweet Elijah compromised? This does not please me! If Klaus got Kol on his side, does that mean Esther got Elijah to join Finn, even if he isn't aware yet? I'm worried, like super worried. It looks like Mikel is back for the finale. I wonder what side he'll choose when it comes to his step-granddaughter. Can Hope restore his faith?

What I Know:

  • Creepy Factor Overload - If Rebekah jumps into Cami's body... and she has a thing for Klaus... ew.

  • Poor Jackson, don't you know it's never gonna last?

  • Aidan and Josh - still the show's cutest couple.

What I Don't Know:

  • Do Klaus and Kol have a shot at working together and being brothers? They're quite cute when they're nice to each other.

  • Is Hansell really gone? I mean, he came back from the dead already. I want more Klaus/Daddy time.

  • Are we able to trust Kol? I really, really want to. He's super hot.

Lines I Love:

  • Marcel - I've gotta say, out of your whole twisted family, you're the one I like the least.

  • Josh - Except that every werewolf in town is trying to kill me. Except for the super hot one I'm sort of dating. But, that's got its own problems though. It's kind of a Romeo and Romeo thing.

  • Klaus - A mother cares for her children, a monster does not. Once you accept she is the latter, you'll stop expecting the former.

Only one more to go this year and it looks like the Mikelson family is going to ring in the new year with a bang... or a bite. I would wonder who was going to die, but nobody stays dead. Instead my thought is, who is now alive? Is it Freya? Clearly, it is almost time to meet Dalia.
