I claim to not be sentimental or a romantic, but if I told you I didn't tear up a few times during this finale episode, I would be lying. There was a little something for everyone in this one and shippers of at least one couple left the evening more than satisfied.

Even though we didn't want to believe it, Coach is moving to New York with his new girlfriend, May. His philosophy on moving? Clean Break. Throw out your junk and make a clean break and he advises the guys to do the same in their lives. Nick, who's basically a hoarder is having a hard time throwing anything away and Schmidt finds that the hardest thing to throw away is a box full of Cece memories. The one item inside is a $5 bill which the guys make fun of him for keeping as they were sure it was over something stupid Schmidt said to Cece when he first met her.

Winston is not enjoying Coach's cold-hearted attitude about leaving and finally confronts him that he doesn't really make the people he's leaving behind feel to good when he brags about his clean break. Coach finally breaks down and cries with Winston as he starts packing up sentimental things from around the apartment.

Nick and Jess go to throw away a mug that they used as their sex signal when they were dating. If either of them wanted to have sex, they would put it out and it would signal that the other wanted to have sex. Winston, however, saw the mug out the previous week and everyone wants to know if they are hooking up again. Nick confesses he put it out in a moment of weakness, but nothing happened. Privately, Jess thanks him as it was she who put it out in a moment of weakness, as she still thinks about him sometimes. Even though he denies it at first, he eventually confesses that he still thinks about it all the time. However, it's time to move on and they throw away the mug together for one final clean break. Both of them get up in the middle of the night to retrieve the mug from the trash to find it missing assuming that the other took it. But they didn't, it was Winston, for his cat. Oh, my poor, sweet, Winston.

Lastly, Coach decides to throw out his box of Cece memories in a Goodwill dumpster only to immediately regret it. He waits for the donation truck to arrive and has to negotiate with Wally (Jack McBrayer Alert!) to get it back and winds up paying him $500 for it. Not able to stand it anymore, Jess finds a loophole in her secret keeping and tells Nick (in front of Schmidt) that Cece is in love with Schmidt. Schmidt decides to climb Mt. Shasta to find her, but she shows up before he can leave. He asks her flat out if she loves him and she tells him she does. He gives her the $5. See, when they first met, he had bet her $5 that he would marry her. So he gets down on his knee and proposes to her. Cece and Schmidt are getting married!

Coach he realizes he can't make a clean break as he sentimentally says goodbye to his gang.

I was deeply pleased with this finale. For the most part, Season Four has been pretty stellar. There were a few slow moments, but overall, it was pretty good. I know the "Will They/Won't They" will go on for a while longer with Jess and Nick, but I'm glad the Cece and Schmidt story finally has a future. And Schmidt weeping in Cece's arms at the end was the perfect touch. Of course he would be overcome with emotion, he really had dreamed of this his whole life. And even though we all knew Damon Wayans, Jr. was leaving, I guess I didn't want to believe it. I do hope this isn't the last we see of our beloved Coach. At the very least, we'll see him at the wedding. And the very end moment with Jess putting Cece and Schmidt's homemade Save the Date on the fridge amongst all of the ones from the season premiere when they all had felt so hopeless? It was a lovely, sentimental way to tie things up for the season with just a glimmer of hope for Nick and Jess. Well done, NEW GIRL, see you next fall.

Lines I Love:

  • Nick - I'm gonna get hard and fix myself.

  • Nick - Just a way to let each other know we were aroused without arousing suspicion. That's wordplay. It's also a free writing lesson.

  • Schmidt (to a Goodwill Donation Box) - Why are you so secure? You're filled with things that nobody wants!

  • Coach - I'm taking this remote, because you always hit the info button by mistake. Winston - It's no mistake, Coach. I like to know more info about the cast and crew.

  • Cece - You should have seen how fast I came down that mountain. I mean a lot of it was falling, but, luckily the ground stopped me.
