TVGuide.com reports that Audra McDonald will reprise her role as Dr. Naomi Bennett for the series finale of ABC's PRIVATE PRACTICE in January. Her character was last seen at the end of the fourth season of the series. No details have been revealed as to the circumstances of Dr. Bennett's return.

At the time of her departure from the show, McDonald had revealed that she missed being close to her family based in the New York area. The five-time Tony Award winner went on to star in Broadway's Porgy & Bess for which she won a 2012 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical.

McDonald earned three Tony Awards by the age of 28 for her performances in Carousel, Master Class, and Ragtime. She was nominated for another Tony Award for her performance in Marie Christine before she won her fourth in 2004 for her role in A Raisin in the Sun. She reprised her Raisin role for a 2008 television adaptation, earning her a second Emmy Award nomination

Private Practice airs Tuesdays at 10/9c on ABC.
