Helen Wagner, star of the hit soap-opera "As the World Turns," died on May 1st at the age of 91. Wagner was married to Broadway producer Robert Willey until his death in May, 2009.

"As the World Turns" executive producer Christopher Goutman said, "All of us at As the World Turns are deeply saddened by Helen's passing. She is loved by generations of fans and while we will miss her greatly, Helen will always remain the heart and soul of As the World Turns."

Wagner played As the World Turns matriarch Nancy Hughes (with only a few interruptions), since the show's debut in April 1956 until her death. She is acknowledged by the Guinness Book of Records as being the longest-running character played by one actor on television. Wagner spoke the first lines of the program: "Good morning, dear." Wagner was awarded a "Lifetime Achievement Award" for her role on the show in May 2004.
