Andrew Lincoln Pens Farewell Letter to 'The Walking Dead'

According to TVGuide, Andrew Lincoln's final episode of THE WALKING DEAD is approaching, and to show his gratitude for all of the support from the fans and the media, he penned a heartfelt letter, which was shared with ComicBook.com.

"Thank you... For coming with us on this journey. For the nine years of fear, heartache, anger and, let's face it, guts you've shown by MAKING IT through these 115 episodes and counting," Lincoln wrote.

He credited his role as Rick Grimes as "the most exciting, challenging and satisfying role of [his] career."

He thanked the fans for coming along on THE JOURNEY and for understanding the direction of the show, and why his time on it must come to an end.

In conclusion, he wrote, "So thank you. For all of it. For the good, the bad... and of course, we wouldn't be a free press... without the ugly. Until our paths cross again. Keep Calm and Carry a Red Machete..."

Based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics, "The Walking Dead" reigns the number one drama on television among adults 18-49 for the last six seasons. The series is executive produced by chief content officer Scott M. Gimple, showrunner Angela Kang, Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, Greg Nicotero, Tom Luse and Denise Huth.

The highly-anticipated ninth season of "The Walking Dead," premiered on Sunday, October 7.
