Deadline reports that Amy Ryan has signed on for Alejandro Gonzalez-Inarritu's upcoming comedy BIRDMAN. The Academy Award-nominated actress joins previously announced cast members Michael Keaton, Edward Norton, Emma Stone, Naomi Watts, Zach Galifianakis and Andrea Riseborough in the Broadway-themed film from Fox Searchlight and New Regency.

In the comedy, Keaton will portray a "washed-up actor best known for playing an iconic superhero who puts together a play on Broadway based on a short story by Raymond Carver. Unfortunately, the ex-superhero's plans to soar again are threatened by his egotistical lead stage actor (Norton)." Ryan will portray the long suffering ex-wife in the fictional production.

Director Gonzalez-Inarritu penned the script along with Nicolas Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris and Armando Bo.

Ryan has a been a busy actress of late, recently wrapping up filming on Greg Mottola's Clear History as well as the upcoming Devil's Knot, Breathe In and The Tomb.

The actress was nominated for an Academy Award and Golden Globe for her performance in Gone Baby Gone (2007) and is also known for her roles in HBO's The Wire, playing Port Authority Officer Beadie Russell; HBO's In Treatment, playing psychiatrist Adele Brousse; and NBC's The Office, playing human resources representative Holly Flax.

She has received Tony nominations for her performance in Broadway's A Streetcar Named Desire and Uncle Vanya. Other Broadway credits include The Women, The Sisters Rosenweig, and The Three Sisters.
