Alec Baldwin Joins JOKER Film as Batman's Father

Alec Baldwin is set to star as Batman's father in the JOKER origin film, according to Variety. Baldwin will play Thomas Wayne and appear opposite Joaquin Phoenix.

Todd Phillips will be writing and directing the film. This Warner Bros. project is separate from the Jared Leto-led Joker that appears in Suicide Squad.

Writing the script with Phillips is Scott Silver. The film will delve into how the Joker became a criminal mastermind.

Also starring in the film is Robert De Niro, who will be portraying a talk-show host who plays a part in driving Phoenix's character to go mad. Also set to be in the film are Zazie Beetz and Marc Maron.

Baldwin is currently nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor for playing Donald Trump on SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE. He can also currently be seen in MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: FALLOUT Spike Lee's "BLACKKKLANSMAN.
