Alan Rickman is set to star in the new gothic murder mystery film LIMEHOUSE GOLEM. The film is adapted from Peter Ackyroyd's novel "Dan Leno and the Limehouse Golem." Jane Goldman, whose previous credits include THE WOMAN IN BLACK and KINGSMEN: SECRET SERVICE, will pen the screenplay.

Set in London in 1880, the story centers around a brutal series of murders in the Limehouse district. The ruthless nature of the murders suggests that the perpetrator may not be human; the town speculates the legendary Golem creature is behind the crimes.

The film will be distributed by Lionsgate Films. Lionsgate CEO Zygi Kamasa commented, "Having recently worked with these three very talented British actors separately we're excited to see them on screen together on what we think will be a chilling adaptation of this popular novel. "

Olivia Cooke (BATES MOTEL) and Douglas Booth (JUPITER ASCENDING) will co-star alongside Rickman.

An internationally-renowned actor of stage, screen and television, Alan Rickman He made his Broadway debut and earned his first Tony Award nomination as Valmont in the 1987 U.S. premiere production of LES LIASIONS DANGEREUSES. On film, he is perhaps best known for his iconic performances as Professor Severus Snape in the Harry Potter franchise and Hans Gruber in the 1988 hit DIE HARD, as well as award-winning roles in such films as SENSE AND SENSIBILITY and, more recently, SWEENEY TODD and BOTTLE SHOCK.
