Deadline reports that Adrianne Palicki has signed on for the female lead in Seth MacFarlane's 13-episode straight-to-series hourlong comedic drama for Fox. The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star joins MacFarlane and Scott Grimes in the cast.

Set 300 years in the future, the yet-to-be-titled live-action series centers on "the adventures of the Orville, a not-so-top-of-the-line exploratory ship in Earth's interstellar fleet. Facing cosmic challenges from without and within, this motley crew of space explorers will boldly go where no comedic drama has gone before."

MacFarlane will portray Orville captain Ed, while Palicki will take on the role of Kelly Grayson, "Ed's ex-wife and the newly appointed First Officer of the Orville." Grimes plays Gordon, "Ed's best friend whom he hires to pilot the Orville."

Palicki portrayed Nick Blood on ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. She also appeared in the spinoff pilot Marvel's Most Wanted and Friday Nights. On the big screen, she most recently appeared in John Wick.
