In the final performance of this season's run of Tosca on January 28th, which will be an international Saturday matinee radio broadcast, tenor Marcelo Álvarez will sing the role of Cavaradossi, replacing Aleksandrs Antonenko, who has withdrawn due to illness.

Álvarez sang Cavaradossi in the 2009 new production premiere of Tosca at the Met and he repeated the role in the 2010-11 season. Later this season, he will make his Met role debut as Radamès in Verdi's Aida. He also sings Cavaradossi this season at La Scala in Milan, the Palau de les Artes in Valencia, and Teatro Regino in Torino.

Álvarez has starred in more than 20 Met radio broadcasts, singing Cavaradossi, Alfredo in Verdi's La Traviata, the Duke of Mantua in Verdi's Rigoletto, the Italian Singer in Richard Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier, Don José in Bizet's Carmen, and Manrico in Verdi's Il Trovatore.

Tosca, conducted by Mikko Franck, also stars Patricia Racette as Tosca, James Morris as Scarpia, and Paul Plishka as the Sacristan.

As previously announced, Robert Dean Smith will sing Cavaradossi on January 18, 21, and 24, replacing Antonenko.
