dodie Sets NOT FOR LACK OF TRYING Deluxe, October & November Tour Dates
New tracks Fruit in the Sun and a reworked He Can Do A Push-Up arrive via Fontana Records this week.
dodie has announced a deluxe edition of her sophomore album NOT FOR LACK OF TRYING, along with a new run of UK and North American live dates. The first music from the deluxe arrives this Friday, August 28th via Fontana Records, with new track 'Fruit in the Sun' alongside a new version of 'HE CAN DO A PUSH-UP'.
Expanding the world of NOT FOR LACK OF TRYING, the deluxe edition releases on October 23rd and brings together the two new songs with reworked versions of favorites from the album, recorded live alongside some of dodie's closest friends. Taking over a beloved countryside studio on her 31st birthday, the sessions saw the group relearn and replay songs together, teach each other new material and jam late into the night with an 1800s-themed murder mystery thrown in for good measure.
In her own words dodie expresses,
'How to deluxify your second album? Book a recording session with all your musical mates on your 31st birthday in the countryside based studio you love, and relearn/replay some of your faves all together! Not to mention the 2 new songs you wrote and teach to everyone, and jam out in the middle of the night. Oh also we all dressed up like we were in the 1800s and played a murder mystery game set at my pretend twin's funeral ha ha ha ha!'
The first taste of the deluxe arrives this Friday, on 'Fruit in the Sun', dodie captures a relationship on the brink of over-ripening –
'too sweet, like it's overdue'. A similar unsettling lives in this song as is in the rest of the album and the artwork - stagnancy, and what ugly/beautiful things overgrow in that stagnancy. Clearly I had a fear of comfort? A distrust in any peace? I am glad this song lives to explore a feeling, but of course sad it had to exist' she explains.
Released in 2025, NOT FOR LACK OF TRYING found the North London-born singer-songwriter striving for meaning in a challenging chapter of her life. Written mostly between London and Los Angeles and produced alongside Grammy-nominated Joe Rubel (Maisie Peters, Griff, Sigrid), the album packages her reflections on everything from falling in love and breaking up to comparison culture and struggles with depression.
The record features singles 'Tall Kids', 'Darling, Angel, Baby', 'I Feel Bad For You, Dave' and 'I'M FINE!', the latter marking dodie's first new solo music in three years. Across the album, the familiar muted rhythms of rubber bridge guitar, undulating strings and haunting harmonies that have long characterised dodie's music are pushed into bold new territory.
More than anything, NOT FOR LACK OF TRYING documented dodie learning to be patient with her own process and accepting the uncertainty that comes with trying to figure things out. With 'Fruit in the Sun' and 'As Far As We Know', she returns to that world from two different vantage points: one lingering in the discomfort of standing still, the other beginning to wonder what might happen when you move.
Alongside the deluxe edition, dodie has also announced a run of UK and North American live dates under a new tour: Not For Lack of Clarinets. This special, intimate evening sees dodie reimagine NOT FOR LACK OF TRYING, live and in full - with every song newly re-scored for two clarinets.
