Warwick Hosts Its First Annual Jazz Festival, 8/26 - 29

The first annual Warwick Jazz Festival will take place from August 26th to the 29th. This event, conceived and produced by local jazz musician Steve Rubin, in cooperation with venues presenting live music, the village of Warwick and local business will be an extension of a vibrant local jazz culture.

The festival begins on Thursday at 9:30 pm with the Festival Opening Night. It will take place outside on Railroad Ave. in Warwick Village. The Music in the Courtyard Series supported and sponsored by the Railroad Ave. merchants led by George Lawrence of The Eclectic Eye has been featuring jazz for 6 years. They were among the first to hire and support local musicians. The Skye Jazz Quartet will perform.

On Friday, Marcus Gillmore will perform at 7 pm and 9:30 pm at Coquito NY (http://www.coquitony.com) Chris Persad Group featuring Sherma Andrews will perform at 8 pm at
The Dautaj (http://www.thedautaj.com). At midnight, the music will continue at The Dautaj with the Warwick All Stars Jam which will be hosted by Dave Smith, with special guest appearance by Gabriele Tranchina.

On Saturday, The Tuscan Cafe (http://www.tuscancafe.net) presents a Jazz Electronica solo performance by Warren Sirota at 1 pm. Later, at 5 pm., the Village of Warwick presents the String Trio of New York, featuring James Emery, Rob Thomas, and John Lindberg at The Albert Wisner Library. Arturo O Farrill wraps up the night at 9:30 pm at Coquito NY. There is a $15 cover charge.

Sunday's closing day schedule Begins at 10 am with the Mike Jackson Duo at the Warwick Valley Farmer's Market. That will be followed by a reservation only "House Concert" by Richard Kimball at 11:30 am. Please call (845) 986-7984 for reservations. There will be a special solo performance of "The Sunday Morning Muse."

At 1pm, at the Vision Community Church (http://www.visiblechurch.org), the Rick Savage Group, featuring Eliot Zigmund on drums, performs. Later, at 4 pm, Steven Kaiser and Kevin Golden will performed at The Peach Grove Inn (http://www.peachgroveinn.net). The evening ends at the Dautaj at 6 pm with performances by Jeff Ciampa, Mark Egan, Bill Evans, and Karl Latham.

The purpose of this event is to pull together these working entities under one collective umbrella, The Warwick Valley Jazz Festival. In addition to its direct effect on artists by hiring them, it synthesizes the tourism, local business and community interests.

The success of the festival can have a broad positive effect on the community by heightening awareness of this great American musical art form and celebrating Warwick's diverse and beautiful environment as an attractive destination in NY State.
