Performing Arts Fort Worth welcomes The Chieftains back to Bass Performance Hall as part of the BNSF Popular Entertainment series on Tuesday, February 28, 2012, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $27.50 and are on sale now!

The Chieftains, a traditional Irish band, is marking its 50th anniversary with the release of Voice of Ages on February 21. An imaginative collaboration featuring a dazzling collection of likeminded musical visionaries and kindred spirits, Voice of Ages  features The Chieftains teaming with stars from the worlds of indie-rock (Bon Iver, The Decemberists, The Low Anthem), country and Americana (The Civil Wars, Pistol Annies, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Punch Brothers), Irish and Scottish folk (Imelda May, Lisa Hannigan, Paolo Nutini) and others.

“With 50 years of glorious music behind us," says band founder and leader Paddy Moloney, "I can think of nothing more exciting than to spend another 50 years collaborating with the best voices of the future.”

The album was produced by Moloney and Fort Worth-reared T Bone Burnett, a Grammy Award®-winning musician and producer. “Throughout all of these decades, Paddy and The Chieftains have maintained their artistic integrity and the joy of making those ancient sounds and calling up those ancient spirits,” Burnett says. “The fact that they are joined on this record by some of the brightest young talents in music is a testament to their importance and the timeless beauty of what they create.”

Founded in 1962, winners of six Grammy Awards and an Academy Award, The Chieftains – Moloney (Uilleann pipes, tin whistle), Matt Molloy (flute), Seán Keane (fiddle) and Kevin Conneff (bodhrán, vocals) – have popularized traditional Irish music worldwide. Over the course of five decades, the group has worked with some of the biggest names in popular music. Among them: Sting, Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell and the Rolling Stones. Voice of Ages is a bold affirmation that their inspiring influence, musical brilliance and enduring legacy are more relevant than ever.
