Some of Toronto's most illustrious musicians and other performing artists join forces in Five Thousand Miles, a benefit concert in aid of Syrian refugees, Sunday, November 8 at 2 p.m., at Rosedale United Church, 159 Roxborough Drive (at Glen Road).

The performers have all donated their services. To date, they include former National Ballet Prima Ballerina Veronica Tennant, leading musical theatre performer Thom Allison; and Liona Boyd, David Warrack, Micah Barnes, George Koller, Paul Novotny and Julie Michels - representing classical, jazz, folk, blues, musical theatre.

Host is artist manager Robert Missen, producer of the event, who for 30 years has been tenor soloist at the church.

Tickets are $25 in advance, from Eventbrite (www.eventbrite.ca/e/5000-miles-a-benefit-concert-for-the-syrian-refugees-tickets-19092805094); or $30 at the door. Tickets for children five to fourteen are available at the door for $10. Donations will also be accepted, with tax receipts issued for donations over $25.

More information is available at www.rosedaleunited.org.

All of the proceeds will be directed towards the Rosedale United Church Refugee Committee, working in partnership with seven other neighbourhood groups to sponsor Syrian refugees. Their goal is to generate the $40,000 required for another family.

Robert Missen notes, "Five Thousand Miles is being presented just prior to Remembrance Day. We are commemorating not only the terrible impact of wars in general, but also the impact that World War One exerted and continues to exert on the politics of the Middle East."
