Susie Burke and David Surette to Bring Folk and Acoustic Concert to VT's Sandglass Theatre, 5/11

By:

Susie Burke and David Surette are looking forward to bringing their own brand of contemporary, traditional, and original folk and acoustic music to southern VT on May 11 at 7:30pm, when they will perform a concert in the intimate space of Putney's Sandglass Theater.

Together since the late 80s, Burke and Surette have built a loyal regional following for their music, the result of a steady stream of concert, coffeehouse and festival performances, as well as numerous recordings and participation in teaching workshops and music camps.

An evening with Susie and David offers a wide-range of folk and acoustic music, including a number of songs from a wealth of contemporary singer/songwriters, some well-known, some a bit further off the beaten path. Traditional music is well-represented as well, with both songs and instrumentals from the variety of folk traditions that thrive here in New England: country blues, old-time and Americana, and Celtic music with a New England accent. And an ever-increasing collection of original material, both songs and instrumentals, demonstrate their abilities as songwriters and tune-mongers as well.

Susie's rich, heartfelt vocals are the centerpiece of their sound, complemented by David's fluid string playing. Together they will feature guitars, mandolin, and cittern, for a sound that seems fuller than just two acoustic instrumentalists. Their performance in Putney is part of a busy spring performance schedule that is taking them around New England, with shows in ME, NH, VT and RI.

"We are really looking forward to performing in Putney" says Surette, last seen locally in the fall as part of the evening celebrating Froggy Bottom Guitars at Next Stage Arts. "We both love the Putney/Brattleboro area, and have spent a good deal of time over here visiting friends, but haven't performed over here as often as we should. So I hope folks will come out for what we hope will be an exceptional evening in a really great venue for live performance."

Tickets are $16 general and $13 for students and seniors, payable by cash or check at the door. Reservations are highly encouraged, as seating is limited. Sandglass Theater is located on Kimball Hill Rd. in the heart of Putney, VT. For reservations or more info, call 802-387-4051 or visit sandglasstheater.org.
