Sufjan Stevens To Perform MYSTERY OF LOVE On 3/4 Oscars, Nominated For Best Original Song

Sufjan Stevens will be joined by St. Vincent, Chris Thile, Moses Sumney, Casey Foubert, and James McAlister to perform "Mystery of Love" at the Academy Awardsthis Sunday, March 4. One of Stevens' three contributions to the soundtrack of Luca Guadagnino's Call Me By Your Name (Sony Pictures Classics), "Mystery of Love" is nominated for the Oscar for Best Original Song.

St Vincent, a.ka. Annie Clark, is a Grammy-winning musician whose history with Stevens goes back to playing in his touring band for his 2006 tour for Illinois. In the years since, St. Vincent has released five albums to critical acclaim, including the 2014 self-titled Best Alternative Grammy winner, and most recently, last years MASSEDUCATION, which Jon Pareles at the New York Times listed as the best album of 2017.

Chris Thile is a Grammy-winning mandolinist, singer, songwriter and composer. Thile has performed as a member of Nickel Creek and Punch Brothers and is currently host of the Minnesota Public Radio show Live From Here.

Moses Sumney, a vocalist and instrumentalist, opened for Stevens on his 2015 Carrie & Lowell Live tour. His debut album, Aromanticism was released last year. In addition to collaborating with John Legend, Sumney has also shared stages with Solange, Corinne Bailey Rae, Mocky, Beck and many more.

Casey Foubert is a multi-instrumentalist and one of Stevens' longtime collaborators, and a member of The Shins and Lucius. Foubert most recently toured with Stevens in 2015.

James McAlister is a percussionist and multi-instrumentalists, and another longtime collaborator. He and Stevens most recently collaborated on 2017's Planetarium, and he joined the band for the 2015 Carrie & Lowell Live tour.

Further nominees for Best Original Song are "Mighty River" from Mudbound, "Remember Me" from Coco, "Stand Up for Something" from Marshall and "This Is Me" from The Greatest Showman.

Call Me By Your Name, based on the André Aciman novel of the same name, is one of the most highly praised movies of the year. It is also nominated for Oscars for Best Picture andAdapted Screenplay, with an additional nomination for Timothée Chalamet for Actor in a Leading Role for his work in the film.

The 90th Oscars, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will be held on Sunday, March 4, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, and will be televised live on ABC at 6:30 p.m. ET/3: 30 p.m. PT.

The nomination is the first for Stevens who, in the last twelve months, has released a live recording and accompanying film (Carrie & Lowell Live), Planetarium-a cosmos-themed album recorded with Nico Muhly, Bryce Dessner and James McAlister, The Greatest Gift-a mixtape featuring outtakes, remixes and demos from his 2015 masterwork Carrie & Lowell, and "Tonya Harding"-a double A-side single in tribute to the legendary figure skater and American icon. "Mystery of Love" was also nominated for Best Song at the 2018 Critics' Choice Awards.
