Ray Noble & Jack Strachey Tribute THEY LIVED IN BRIGHTON at Brighton Fringe, May 23-25

ELAL Productions presents THEY LIVED IN BRIGHTON, a tribute to pre-war musicians Ray Noble and Jack Strachey, as part of the Brighton Fringe Festival on three evenings, 23rd, 24th, 25th May at 6 o'clock. Created by Alan Felton, accompanied on the piano by Mick Hamer, the unusual venue for this show is the comfortable ambience of Alan's parlour on the seafront in Hove.

Many famous actors, authors and musicians live or have lived in Brighton, including the once famous Ray Noble and Jack Strachey. Ray Noble, who wrote the familiar "Goodnight Sweetheart", was a musician, big- band-leader and composer and was born in Montpelier Terrace, Brighton in 1903. He has a blue plaque commemorating his birth as well as a Brighton and Hove bus bearing his name. Jack Strachey, part of the famous Strachey family was a composer and songwriter who died in Brighton having spent the last fifteen years of his life in the city. He was the author of over 500 songs and pieces of light music including "These Foolish Things" which is still sung and earning royalties today. "I hope that efforts will continue to be made to erect a blue plaque to commemorate Strachey's death" said Felton "he made an important contribution to British popular culture and deserves to be remembered".

Written especially for this year's Fringe "They Lived in Brighton" celebrates the lives of these two popular musicians of the 1930s and 1940s whose names may be forgotten but whose lasting legacy is their songs. The programme includes many songs to hum along to: Goodnight Sweetheart, Isle of Capri, Love is the Sweetest Thing, A Nightingale Sang in Berkley Square as well as forgotten gems.

Alan Felton is an actor, singer and entertainer who studied history at Oxford University and has a lifelong passion for reviving lost and forgotten music music.

Mick Hamer toured with Sid Phillips, played for Eartha Kitt and had a spell as accompanist to Julie Rodgers. His current gigs include regular appearances with his own band at The Albion in Hove and spots at Eastbourne's Cavendish Hotel with the Terry Giles Sextet.
