Okkervil River Announces Special Limited Dates as Acoustic Trio

Fresh off the release their widely acclaimed 2016 record "Away," Okkervil River has announced a special limited run of acoustic trio shows which will feature fan requests and rarities. With a band comprised of Will Sheff (vocals, guitar), Will Graefe (vocals, guitar) and Ben Lazar-Davis (vocals, bass), these are the first trio shows the band has ever done, and will be limited to four intimate concerts in unusually small rooms.

"We wanted to alternate the big rock band thing with something smaller and more songwriting-centered and spontaneous," says the lead singer and songwriter Will Sheff. "After we had such a rewarding year with "Away" it seemed like a fun idea to play some up close and personal shows, and include requests and surprises."

Along with today's trio announce Okkervil River has also debuted a new video for the "Away" track "Mary On A Wave"; watch it HERE. Directed by Sheff and filmed on location in an abandoned farm colony on Staten Island, the clip follows a small boy on a strange journey...

'Away' has earned praise from The New York Times, Pitchfork, The Wall Street Journal, Uncut Magazine and NPR Music. It represents a turning point for Sheff, who wrote the album during a time of loss and change in his life.

Sheff worked with an almost entirely new cast of musicians for this album, most of them coming from the jazz and avant-garde world, including members of yMusic, keyboardists Jared Samuel (Yoko Ono) and Brian Donohoe (Snarky Puppy), arranger Nathan Thatcher (Nico Muhly, Kronos Quartet), and vocalist Marissa Nadler, among others. "This record was me taking my life back to zero and starting to add it all back up again, one plus one plus one," says Sheff.

All upcoming select trio shows are listed below, as well as a performance with the full band at New York City's Lincoln Center as part of their prestigious"American Songbook"series on February 3rd.
