Join New Jersey Festival Orchestra at the Bickford Theater at the Morris Museum on Sunday, November 2 at 3:00pm as it celebrates Halloween by bringing to life, in glorious symphonic splendor, the original 1926 silent movie Flesh and the Devil starring Greta Garbo and John Gilbert.

Savor the silver screen's greatest romantic melodrama which launched Greta Garbo as one of the most mysterious, glamorous stars of the American screen, presented complete with LIVE orchestral score by Carl Davis. There will not be a single moment of silence as almost fifty NJFO musicians, under the baton of Maestro David Wroe, perform with split-second timing and precision, Davis' extraordinary soundtrack as the original classic silent movie is projected above the orchestra.

Flesh and the Devil is a love triangle where the deep bond of friendship between two soldiers is disturbed by a destructive woman who causes marital mayhem before blood brotherhood is restored and final retribution strikes. It is Garbo at her most alluring, enigmatic and seductive best. The smoldering and somewhat daring love scenes, duels, banishment and a surprise ending will take your breath away.

Equally mesmerizing is the score by composer Carl Davis. With a variety of textures, from military music to lush strings, romantic instrumental solos and even Wagnarian drama, the themes, the passion and the love in this movie are all there in the music which mirrors every twist and turn in the plot, illuminating the emotional world in ways that pictures and subtitles cannot. A performance of Beethoven's much-loved Symphony No.7 will round off the festivities.

"This is a fabulously romantic, broad stroked and beautiful score of symphonic proportion," remarked Maestro Wroe. "It closely mirrors the traumatic yet passionate events unfolding in the movie and will give a whole new dimension to surround sound! Combining different media is part of our mission to broaden the appeal of classical music. Audiences should be prepared to be swept away!"
